Invisible orthodontics
Invisible orthodontics is a method through which malocclusions are corrected by means of transparent and removable aligners whose function is to align the teeth, without call for braces. The incorporation of new technologies and the increase in adult patients have revolutionised the orthodontic market by offering new systems based on comfort and aesthetics, the best known of all being the Invisalign method.
Speaking clearly: Invisalign is a virtually invisible way to correct the position of your teeth. Through the use of 3D digital imaging technology, Invisalign produces a representation of the entire treatment plan based on the prescription of the specialists at the Adalia Dental Clinic, from the initial position of a patient’s teeth to the desired final position.
From this point, a series of transparent aligners will move your teeth little by little; they are made of advanced technology thermoplastic material and are manufactured to fit your mouth. These aligners are worn for about two weeks before they are replaced with the next ones in the series, to move the teeth gradually until reaching the desired final position. The length of time Invisalign treatment will last is determined by Dr. Laura Rodríguez and Dr. Elena Adalia according to the patient’s specific needs.
In addition to the success of the treatment, at no point during the will anybody notice that you are wearing these aligners, since they are practically invisible, which makes Invisalign adapt without problems to your lifestyle and your daily relationship with others. In addition, they are removable, so you can enjoy yourself without problems and have the flexibility to eat and drink what you want during the treatment. You can also remove the aligners for daily dental cleaning.
With Invisalign there are no metal brackets or wires. This means that, in most cases, you have to spend less time at the Adalia Dental Clinic. Of course, it is essential to follow Dr. Elena Adalia’s recommendations, committing to wearing the aligners as long as possible and attending the scheduled check-ups, so that the teeth gradually reach the desired position.
FAQs:
What are the first steps with Invisalign?

How does Invisalign work?
The aligners move the teeth by applying precise forces to achieve a controlled movement of the tooth. Unlike traditional braces, Invisalign not only controls the degree of movement by aligner, but also the time involved in this movement. Therefore, at each stage, the movement of only certain teeth is permitted, according to the Invisalign treatment plan for that particular stage. The result is an efficient force application system that moves the teeth to the desired prescribed position.
What material are the aligners made of?
The aligners, which are practically invisible, are made of a high resistance medical-use thermoplastic material, developed exclusively for the Invisalign system. The aligners are made to your specifications and fit perfectly to your teeth.
From what age can a patient be treated with Invisalign?
Invisalign can be used to treat the malocclusion of an infinity of adults and adolescents interested in correcting their smile. In the case of adolescents, Invisalign Teen could be the right treatment.
How often should I visit my dentist once treatment is started?
The period between appointments is the same as with traditional fixed appliances, although the appointments are shorter, since it is not necessary to make adjustments to the wires and/or brackets. Every 4 or 6 weeks you should visit your dentist to make sure that the treatment is progressing as planned, as well as to receive the following sets of aligners.
How long does the treatment last?
The total duration of the treatment depends on the complexity of the treatment and is usually similar to that of traditional fixed appliances. The average treatment lasts between 9 and 18 months.
Can Invisalign close gaps?
Yes. Gaps between teeth are, in general, easy to close with Invisalign.
Since I removed the fixed device, my teeth have moved.
Many Invisalign patients have undergone treatment with fixed appliances at some previous time, often during their youth. Normally, Invisalign can correct the movement that occurs after the removal of fixed appliances, which is commonly referred to as relapse.
Are there any restrictions on what I can eat during the treatment?
No. Unlike traditional fixed appliances with wires and brackets, you can eat whatever you want while you are under treatment, since you can remove the aligners for eating and drinking. Therefore there is no need to hold back on eating your favourite foods. On the other hand, to maintain proper hygiene it is important that you brush your teeth and floss after each meal and before replacing the aligners.
How often do you have to wear the aligners?
Aligners must be worn at all times during treatment, except when eating, brushing and flossing. Around 22 hours a day 🙂
Do aligners affect speech?
The vast majority of patients say they are not affected in the way they talk. However, as with traditional appliances, there is a period of initial adaptation because of having something new in the mouth.
